LARES System EGSE

The LARES System EGSE will be designed to provide the possibility to verify the Avionics functions in the various phases of manufacturing, integration and environmental test of all units. The equipment will interface with the system by providing the power supply of all units and simulate a part of the subsystem in its absence.
Aim of the system EGSE is the support of the activities of integration and testing starting from box level up to system verification level.
The EGSE is composed by different set of unit EGSE which will be used independently for verification of unit level.
When system AIT campaign will initiate the unit EGSE will be merged in order to form a system EGSE.

The EGSE will be composed of the following elements:
– Acquisition & Processing Equipment (A&P/EQ) EGSE:

  • Supplies the equipment
  • Simulates the sensors by means of waveform signal generators
  • Simulates the signals coming from the Vega LV interface by means of a Command Simulator Unit
  • Simulates the video-camera by means of an analogue video signal source
  • Checks the unit performances measuring the functional parameters

– Distribution & Separation Equipment (D&S/EQ) EGSE:

  • Tests the battery charge function and recharges the batteries whenever necessary
  • Supplies the equipment
  • Simulates the signals coming from the Vega LV interface by means of a Command Simulator Unit
  • Simulates the power load of the A&P/EQ 
  • Simulates the separation devices
  • Measures voltages, currents and functional parameters, to check the unit performances

– Telemetry Equipment (TM/EQ) EGSE:

  • Supplies the equipment
  • Simulates the data stream generating random PCM modulated data
  • Receives data with:
  1.         o a down converter to generate an IF output at 70 MHz center frequency (Not     part of the A&G/SS EGSE)
  2.          o a demodulator for FM demodulation and CCSDS decoding (Not part of the A&G/SS EGSE)
  3.          o a data extractor for downloaded data from the TLM packets

 1.1 A&H/SS EGSE SOFTWARE

All the EGSE Software was developed under Nation Instruments LabView® G-programming language and is fully tested for a Microsoft Windows XP Professional operative system.

1.1.1 BAP-EQ Charger

The BAP-EQ Charger is the software that performs, in manual or automatic manner, the charging process of the BAP/EQ.

1.1.2 EGSE Control GUI

The EGSE Control GUI is the core control software of the A&H/SS EGSE: it will handle all the A&H/SS electrical I/Fs with the exception of the RS422 (telemetry data line) and the CAN bus for the update of the firmwares of the A&P/EQ.

1.1.3 A&H-SS Telemetry Server

The A&H-SS Telemetry Server is the software that acts as a gateway between one of the possible telemetry data I/Fs and the A&H-SS Telemetry Viewer.
In the stand alone application, the A&H-SS Telemetry Server could log telemetry streams or fed A&H-SS Telemetry Server and Viewer through DataSocket connection. A direct link between A&H-SS Telemetry Server stand alone application and A&H-SS Telemetry Viewer stand alone application is not possible.

 1.1.4 A&H-SS Telemetry Viewer

The A&H-SS Telemetry Viewer is the software that decommutate, analyze and display the logged A&H/SS telemetry data from one of the sources previously selected by the A&H-SS Telemetry Server.
The stand alone application could not be linked to the stand alone instance of the A&H-SS Telemetry Server. The stand alone application should be used to analyze, in post-processing, previously logged data.

1.1.5 Combined A&H-SS Telemetry Viewer and Server

The A&H-SS Telemetry Server and Viewer is a complete software suite that performs the functionality of the A&H-SS Telemetry Server with real time telemetry processing done by A&H-SS Telemetry Viewer.
The suite permits to view and analyze real time LARES A&H/SS telemetry data from one of the possible sources selected in the A&H-SS Telemetry Server (direct link with RS422 serial line, Ethernet data from CORTEX CRT Receiver or Ethernet DataSocket distribution mechanism).

1.1.6 A&P-EQ Firmware Update

The A&P-EQ Firmware Update is the software that could update all the A&P/EQ of the A&H/SS (also the Data Handling Timeline) through the CAN bus available in the umbilical connection.
